FORCES in MOTION
Grades served: First and Second grade
Number of Students per program or session: maximum 25
Content Standard: Physical Science
Program Description and Details (brief):

Fun, deep learning, and creative movement activities integrate very well with the learning objectives of the physical science standards. Objects and dancers can move in a variety of ways, such as straight, zigzag, circular, and back and forth. The motion of an object is affected by the force of pushing and pulling. Experimentation and investigation of different ways to change the motion of objects (our bodies) provide creative opportunities for students and provide lively and engaging activities. Grade two scaffolds up to changes in force applied and the forces of gravity and magnets. We carefully consider precision in our movements and measurements as we participate in the art of dance and develop discipline, focus and cooperation.

DANCING with WORMS

Grades served: Third grade
Number of Students per program or session: maximum 25
Content Standard: Physical Science
Program Description and Details (brief)

The interactions of living and non-living things in soil are explored through dance. The role worms play in the formation of soil and organic matter, the properties of matter are taught in the context of the movement of air and water in soil and the different movements of particles in a solid, liquid, and gas. These individual dances culminate to make a Dancing with Worms performance presented to the school community.

“WEATHER DANCES”
Grades served: Kindergarten
Number of Students per program or session: maximum 25
Content Standard: Earth and Space Science

Program Description and Details (brief):
We can observe short term weather changes as well as seasonal long term changes. We will observe and interpret the wind, temperature, and precipitation through creative movement and the use of props and music to make “Weather Dances”. We will also explore the changes of night and day, the path of the sun and moon through the sky, and our changing distance from the sun creating the seasons. This arts-integrated activity brings our observations to life as we engage in movement expression of earth and space science and participate in the joy of moving through space and developing our understanding of the art of dance. Activities also develop discipline, cooperation, and creativity.

“Children love music. Children love movement and dance. Children love instruments. [Dance Evert] takes all these things young children love and integrates them into the hands-on, experiential approach, to teach concepts effortlessly and seamlessly with solid retention and goal-oriented results.”
-Jennifer L. Morrison Garza, M.Ed.

GEOMETRY in MOTION

Grades served: 3,4,5
Number of Students per program or session: 25
Content Standards: Geometry
Program Description and Details (brief):

There is an amazing parallel between the human body and geometry in that the bones create lines and the joints create angles. We put geometry in motion in order to create parallel and intersecting lines, understand that degrees are measured with a circle and used to create acute, right, and obtuse angles and further this understanding to create 2 and 3-dimensional shapes. We also incorporate ‘stretchy bands’ that students can manipulate and demonstrate their understanding. We work creatively as we move through space feeling good about ourselves and interacting with others while using our kinesthetic, spatial, musical, and mathematical intelligence. Using the body with focused feeling and attention to express geometric lines and angles are engaging and nurture deep and lasting learning. Upper grades can scaffold up with activities that present formulas for perimeter and area.

Professional Development Workshops for Teachers
Program Title: Dancing Through the Curriculum
Presenter: Tom Evert
A fun and engaging participatory workshop that integrates language arts and movement. We will offer movement solutions to key descriptive words from school reading books to interpret the words and create the setting and action of the stories. We will then work in small groups and use the elements of dance; Time, Shape, Space, and Motion to develop our movements into a “dance” accompanied by music to retell our story.

Program Title: Geometry in Motion
Presenter: Tom Evert
Bring meaning, enjoyment, energy, and creativity to the classroom through the artistic process. Teachers will learn the elements of dance and how to present creative movement activities. Learn some lessons worthy of a stage as well as how to create your own movement lessons that embrace 4th-grade geometry standards.

Assembly Programs

Geometry in Motion introduces the elements of dance as an art form and demonstrates the principles of geometry in the math academic content standards as well as the world around us. DANCE EVERT Company will perform a variety of dances that celebrate the magic of the performing arts and the rich content of our study of geometry.

Dance is an Art form “Body Mind and Spirit”
DANCE EVERT brings the multifaceted art of dance to life. The discipline of the Body, the creative works of the mind, and the spirit of communication glow from these expressive performers.
